Director, Business Development and Government Relations

The Director leads government relations and lobbying in coordination with ispace executives. The role oversees lobbying activities directed at the Japanese government and proposes strategic approaches to lobbying governments in the United States and Europe, including support through introductions to relevant networks.

The position builds relationships with governments, supports budget allocation and policy design, and uses policy developments in Japan, the United States, and Europe to guide engagement. It also advances business development across Japan missions by combining government and private-sector activity.

The Director leads government and private-sector sales in Japan and other countries, with responsibility for generating revenue for Japanese and U.S. missions. The role leads executive-level negotiation and decision-making for large opportunities and projects spanning multiple missions.

The position oversees the government and government relations group, the domestic business development group, and the foundation-related group. It carries responsibility for Japanese revenue and the profitability of Japanese missions. In coordination with HR, the Director is responsible for organizational design, organizational development, employee development, and hiring for the assigned organizations.

The role works with the CTO and other technical departments to turn information and needs obtained from government and private-sector stakeholders into internal proposals and proposal documents. It integrates business, technical, and policy perspectives and independently explains and negotiates with internal and external stakeholders. The stated work location is Tokyo, Japan.
