Plan sponsored video and article content for NewsPicks Studios, turning client needs into proposals and coordinating production with sales, directors, engineers, and designers.
About this role
This role curates domestic and international news for approximately 12 million NewsPicks app users. Daily responsibilities include assessing the value of news, selecting important stories across a broad range of topics, and placing them on the app and website top pages. The editor also selects stories for scheduled and breaking push notifications, considering coverage by overseas media and potential future interest. Another responsibility is creating content for the news trend roundup section by choosing trends and related articles that deepen understanding of the news.
Applicants must have experience organizing or editing articles, or performing curation work, for a news media outlet, curation media service, or magazine. A foundation in, or strong interest in, business and economics is required. Candidates should be comfortable handling overseas news; translation tools may be used. Experience working for an overseas or economic media organization is welcomed.
The position requires interest in economic and business news, strong intellectual curiosity, and a willingness to gather information. The posting also seeks a user-first approach, objective selection of information, open and direct communication, emotional self-control when negative news occurs, and the ability to discuss and make decisions using quantitative data. Candidates should be comfortable with text communication through online chat tools such as Slack and with remote work.
NewsPicks is an economic news platform that distributes news from more than 100 domestic and international media outlets, along with original articles from its editorial team. The curation team works with professionals including editors, reporters, engineers, data analysts, marketers, and legal specialists. Selected stories and user or professional-picker comments can lead to discussion and deeper understanding among users.
The position is full-time with eight scheduled working hours under a full-flex system with no core time. Because of the nature of news curation, shifts are assigned between 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.; employees do not work the entire period each day. News curation also takes place on weekends and public holidays, so work on those days may occur approximately two or three times per month. Usually only one weekend day is worked, remotely, with a weekday substitute holiday provided.
Onboarding and team collaboration are prioritized, with approximately three office days per week expected. Remote work can also be selected flexibly according to individual circumstances and the work, with attendance and working hours coordinated within the team. The office location is in Marunouchi, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo. The stated work location may change to the employee’s home, the headquarters, or another company-approved location.
Compensation is determined according to experience and ability, with no numeric salary range stated. Benefits include transportation reimbursement up to JPY 50,000 per month, a company-provided PC, a reduced-hours制度, annual paid leave starting at 10 days, condolence leave, childbirth and childcare leave, and a long-vacation制度 providing two separate seven-consecutive-day periods per year in addition to paid leave. The company provides social insurance coverage. Smoking is prohibited in workspaces, and work is not performed in designated smoking areas.
