Editorial Intern

The intern will assist the NewsPicks editorial department with the production of original content. NewsPicks is an economic social media service where economic news is presented together with comments from industry professionals and experts. The editorial department produces paid original articles and videos in-house.

Day-to-day responsibilities include translating and editing translated articles, creating subtitles for videos, conducting research and interviews, writing, and supporting the production of articles and videos. The role provides exposure to economic and business knowledge, media production processes, research and report analysis, and ways of presenting difficult information clearly.

Applicants must be able to work the stated schedule and must be able to read English-language news fluently without using translation tools. They must be scheduled to graduate from a university or graduate school in 2028 or later and must share the company’s The 7 Values. Experience with presentation tools such as PowerPoint, Keynote, or Word is welcome, as is spreadsheet software experience.

Applications require a resume and an essay of approximately 1,000 Japanese characters on the theme of a topic the applicant would like to pursue in the NewsPicks editorial department. The format is unrestricted.

This is a part-time hourly employment position. Work is expected approximately three weekdays per week, with no fixed weekday and excluding weekends. Applicants must be able to commute regularly within Tokyo because the reporting base is in Tokyo. Office attendance is estimated at once per week, subject to consultation. The stated possible workplace range includes the applicant’s home, the headquarters, or another location approved by the company.

The estimated hourly rate is JPY 1,450 and may be discussed; the final amount is determined based on experience and ability. The contract is generally renewed every six months, although the initial term may be shorter depending on the joining date. Total part-time employment is limited to three years from the joining date. The position is for people who are not working for another company as a part-time, regular, or contract employee, and applicants must reside in Japan. Smoking is prohibited in the workspaces, with smoking permitted only in a designated smoking room in the office building; no work is performed in smoking-permitted areas.
