Product Development Specialist, Official Merchandise

The role plans, develops, produces, and launches official merchandise using Square Enix game intellectual property. Responsibilities cover the process from initial planning through release, with coordination across relevant internal and external parties.

Specific duties include proposing products, reviewing specifications, preparing business plans for assigned areas, coordinating internal and external stakeholders, and managing reviews. The role also handles quotations, negotiations, orders, and schedules with external manufacturers, checks product samples and progress, prepares necessary documents, and coordinates meetings with sales, promotion, and overseas teams. Domestic and overseas business travel is required.

Candidates must have at least two years of experience in planning, development, production management, or related work at a company, including profit-and-loss calculations for products. Basic experience with Office applications, including Outlook email, is required. Candidates must also have expertise in a category or area within the character business.

Knowledge, interest, and intellectual curiosity concerning entertainment such as games and manga, knowledge of Square Enix IP content, experience playing Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest, overseas factory travel experience, experience planning or developing products using molds, end-to-end product development and launch experience, and management experience are desirable.

The position is based at the Shibuya office in Shibuya, Tokyo. It involves working with game development creators and covers a broad range of merchandise categories, with opportunities to coordinate product development and production in a global environment.
