AI Researcher (Applied Machine Learning and Theory)

This full-time AI Researcher role focuses on research and development of advanced AI technologies supporting machine perception in mobility. The work covers image recognition, multimodal generative AI, and machine-learning methodology and theory, including approaches such as BEV recognition, depth estimation, area estimation, and more efficient learning methods.

Responsibilities include researching literature and other companies, planning studies, conducting experiments, establishing methods, implementing them, evaluating performance, and transferring technology. The researcher will propose solutions to business and technical challenges, apply new methods in practice, and investigate innovative technologies that may support new business creation. Deliverables may include technical reports, patent applications, conference presentations, and journal submissions.

The role includes collaboration with universities, research institutions, and external companies in Japan and overseas, as well as cooperation with internal business and planning departments. The research group works on improving the accuracy, generality, and learning approaches of machine perception functions. Its stated context is AI research and development supporting battery-electric vehicle adoption and intelligent mobility, with collaboration with domestic and international universities and prior results presented at ACCV, BMVC, and the Japanese Society for Artificial Intelligence.

Applicants must have at least three years of AI research and development experience; experience from any industry or academia is accepted. One first language, Japanese or English, must be at business level, and the other language, English or Japanese, must be at daily-conversation level. A doctorate in computer science or a related field, collaboration experience with universities, research institutions, or companies, Kaggle or programming-contest experience, and experience with patent applications, conference presentations, or journal submissions are welcomed. TOEIC 700 or higher is welcomed, although equivalent language ability is also accepted.

The position is based at the Tokyo Research Center in Chiyoda, Tokyo. Working hours are 8:30–17:30, with variations by plant or office; some departments offer flextime without core hours and with an eight-hour standard workday. The posting lists a work-from-home system and remote work. The annual salary range is JPY 6.10–11.40 million, with overtime paid separately according to hours worked.
