Sakana AI builds generative-AI technology inspired by nature, and its Product Team turns that research into products such as Sakana Chat, Sakana Marlin and Sakana Fugu. This Applied Research Engineer works across those products, from the user interface and experience through the backend and infrastructure, spearheading the applied research and productisation of advanced AI such as autonomous agents and multi-agent LLM systems.
The engineer delivers solutions to customers with cutting-edge AI, defines requirements and technical approaches in ambiguous, fast-moving areas, researches and develops high-impact core AI components, and considers how Sakana AI's research can become products.
Applicants need business-level Japanese and experience with generative AI such as LLMs and AI agents, with several of the following: agent workflows and multi-agent systems, function calling, MCP and A2A, RAG and search, document understanding with VLM and OCR, guardrails against hallucination, and benchmarks. A degree in computer science, machine learning or a related field is expected; business-level English is preferred.
