Data Engineer / ML Engineer (AI Product Development)

This role covers data engineering and machine learning for AI product development, with Context Lake as its central area of responsibility. Context Lake connects data distributed across the company and serves as a data and AI foundation. The work uses first-party customer data held from the various companies and services that use KARTE.

Responsibilities include designing, building, and operating scalable, highly reliable infrastructure for collecting, storing, processing, and using first-party data at a scale of several tens of billions of UU. The role also uses the resulting platform for data analysis, reporting, and insight generation to address customer business issues. Depending on the project, the person conducts customer interviews and explains analysis results.

The role combines behavioral logs and attribute data to perform multidimensional analysis, identify new customer segments, and provide insights that can support marketing initiatives. It also involves designing and implementing algorithms based on behavioral data, including user models for clustering, lifetime value prediction, and recommendation. Data flows for machine-learning training and inference are automated and improved through pipelines for creating training datasets and connecting with feature stores.

Additional work includes planning data strategies to make effective use of PLAID’s first-party data and considering new data sources. The stated technology stack includes GCP and Azure for infrastructure; Python and deep-learning frameworks such as PyTorch for AI and machine learning; Vertex AI for MLOps; and BigQuery and dbt for the data analysis platform.

The position provides substantial discretion in technology selection and architecture design for the data platform. Because the work spans infrastructure, analysis, customer-facing insight generation, and machine-learning development, it covers a broad range of data engineering activities and includes participation in AI development projects from the data side.

The work location is the headquarters at 6-10-1 Ginza, Chuo-ku, Tokyo, in a hybrid arrangement combining office and remote work. Depending on company and team circumstances, a certain number of office days may be requested. The business side currently generally works from the office three days per week.
