The role also builds understanding of the business model and customers, reflects that understanding in technology strategy, works with product managers and business leaders on business growth, participates in quarterly reviews and business planning, and optimizes personnel, infrastructure, and system costs.

Required qualifications are at least 10 years of software development experience; at least 5 years of management experience including management of multiple teams or engineering managers; experience using AI in software development or improving development productivity; experience designing and reviewing architectures for large-scale web services or SaaS products; experience creating technology strategies and roadmaps; experience communicating and coordinating with business divisions and executives; and business-level Japanese at N1 or above.

Preferred qualifications include development experience in ad technology, C or C++ development, large-scale system development and operations using AWS or GCP, and experience building or operating highly available systems using container technologies, configuration-management tools, and databases. Experience leading AI-based process improvements, serving as a CTO, VPoE, or engineering organization director, business-level English, and experience working in a global development organization are also welcomed.

The position is based in Shinjuku, Tokyo. Work from home is available two days per week, subject to possible future changes. Working hours are 10:00 to 19:00, with Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays off. The posting lists monthly pay of JPY 928,571 to JPY 1,571,429, with bonuses twice a year; the published annual salary range is JPY 13 million to JPY 22 million. The fixed overtime allowance covers 45 hours, and overtime exceeding that amount is paid separately.
