Engineering Manager, Mobile App Development

The Engineering Manager will lead the mobile application development team for WealthNavi, a fintech robo-advisor service that is evolving toward an integrated digital asset-building platform. The role connects business requirements with development execution and helps control uncertainty as the product develops. The team includes senior engineers who can work autonomously, so the position emphasizes project management and product delivery over extensive day-to-day people management.

Responsibilities include building and operating a delivery process that controls schedule, quality, cost, and scope. The manager will create medium- and long-term development roadmaps with the business side, incorporating external factors such as operating system updates and app store guideline changes. The role also involves explaining mobile-specific constraints and processes, including app review, operating system differences, and distribution flows, to non-engineering stakeholders and aligning expectations.

The manager will make decisions about which elements should be shared across iOS and Android and which should be optimized for each platform, taking account of their design guidelines and implementation differences. The role also includes strengthening the team structure as the service expands and carrying out people management.

Required qualifications include at least three years of management experience in an iOS or Android mobile application development team, experience leading development and roadmap planning while involving business stakeholders, practical experience covering mobile app development from technology selection through release and operations, and experience developing mobile applications with native languages. Experience delivering projects in environments with substantial uncertainty in requirements or schedules, and backend development experience, are welcome.

The named technology stack includes Swift, SwiftUI, UIKit, Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, Android View, Git, GitHub, Jira, Figma, Firebase, Google BigQuery, AWS, Bitrise, GitHub Actions, and GitHub Copilot. Server-side development uses Java and Kotlin with Spring Boot, while AWS and Google BigQuery are used as cloud technologies.

This is a full-time regular employee position in Shinagawa, Tokyo. The annual salary is JPY 8,000,000 to JPY 12,000,000, paid in twelve monthly installments under an annual salary system. Working hours use a flextime system with core hours from 10:00 to 16:00 and a monthly settlement period based on the number of business days multiplied by eight hours. The work style is hybrid, with up to two remote days per week and at least three office days per week, subject to assignment-specific exceptions.
