Software Engineer

This open software engineering position is intended for candidates interested in software engineering and the space business who are unsure which role best matches their experience and interests. Assignment may involve one position or work spanning multiple areas. Aerospace engineering knowledge is not required at the time of application and can be learned after joining.

Potential responsibilities include defining requirements and implementing embedded software for microsatellites; developing satellite control, manufacturing, and testing support systems running on AWS; and using web technologies such as gRPC and React to automate satellite operations and improve manufacturing traceability. SRE and platform work includes building CI/CD, developing infrastructure as code, and organizing the company-wide technology stack to improve development productivity.

Other possible work includes developing ground-station reservation systems based on orbital information, antenna control programs, and satellite communication protocols; building web GIS applications that combine satellite data with geospatial information; developing machine-learning models and image-processing algorithms for satellite imagery solutions; and creating data pipelines for service delivery. Algorithm development may cover precise state-estimation algorithms using methods such as Kalman filters, simulation, and implementation on FPGAs or embedded systems.

The work concerns microsatellites, satellite constellations, ground networks, and complex systems spanning space and terrestrial infrastructure. Applications mentioned include marine infrastructure, environmental management, and deep-space exploration.

Depending on the assignment, tools and technologies include macOS, Linux including WSL2, Windows, Rust, C, C++, TypeScript, Python, MATLAB, VHDL, Verilog, React, MapLibre GL JS, tonic, React Router, GitHub, Slack, Zoom, Google Meet, GitHub Projects V2, GitHub Issues, Redmine, Git, GitHub Actions, Terraform, ecspresso, Amazon CloudWatch, Grafana, Sentry, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, InfluxDB, and PostGIS. Company-provided PCs are supplied according to the employee's preference from designated options. The workplace is the Ariake office in Koto, Tokyo, generally office-based with partial remote work available. The selection process consists of a coding test, document screening, first interview, second interview with an aptitude test, and final interview.
