Lead Web Engineer

This lead web engineering role is part of a development team working on talent-management and employee-benefits SaaS products. The expected assignment is to one of the product teams for freee Human Resources Evaluation, freee Survey, freee E-Learning or freee Benefits, while also advancing needed features across the wider talent-management domain rather than remaining limited to one product.

Responsibilities include planning, designing, implementing, testing, measuring and improving product features. The engineer will investigate and research new and core technologies, collaborate with product managers and UX members, and participate in user interviews. Ongoing product development work also includes CI/CD and infrastructure operations. The role includes external communication with providers of OEM products. Responsibilities may change depending on business circumstances and the individual's suitability.

The team develops both newer products, where rapid hypothesis validation and technical challenges are important, and the large-scale freee Human Resources and Labor Management product, where quality and speed must be balanced. The product direction includes applying AI to SaaS products and developing experiences described as “Done for you.”

Required qualifications are at least five years of web-service development experience, an understanding of the architecture and issues of systems the applicant has worked on, and daily use of AI tools for work or personal activities. Experience developing web applications with Ruby on Rails, React or Go is welcome, as is experience advancing product development with stakeholders from other companies. Experience in product development using English communication is also welcome. Japanese- and English-language development teams coexist, and some cross-functional work may use English depending on the assignment.
