Business Development Manager

This Business Development Manager sits in SmartNews’s Next-Generation Business Division, which creates new businesses and digital products outside the existing SmartNews app. The role owns the business side of one or more products such as Wanderland, from defining how the product will generate revenue to building the commercial foundation needed for launch and growth.

The manager designs business models, pricing and packaging, and takes responsibility for revenue plans. Work includes identifying, negotiating and closing partnerships with content and IP holders, stores and other businesses, distribution partners, and technology vendors. The role also builds and manages a two- to four-person BD team, represents market and partner insight in product roadmap discussions, and leads initiatives across Product, Engineering, Legal, Finance and Sales. Candidates must have at least five years of experience in business development, business planning or strategic partnerships, including two or more years of people management, plus ownership of a revenue-generating business or new venture and experience closing complex external partnerships.
