Technical Artist

The Technical Artist supports game development through research and development of new technologies, workflow improvement, data pipeline construction, and problem solving.

Responsibilities include validating technologies against title requirements, designing, building and improving data pipelines, creating Maya plugins and scripts, developing Houdini tools and HDAs, and preparing development environments with Unreal Engine and other game engines.

Applicants must have experience developing plugins or tools for game engines and DCC tools. The role requires an interest in developing and improving tools that support design work, together with a desire to build expertise in this area of game production. The posting also requires Japanese ability sufficient for smooth communication in business operations.

Preferred experience includes tool development using the Maya Python API 2.0, Python, Qt, C++, or C#, as well as Python-based tool development. Experience developing game-oriented plugins and tools for DCC tools such as Maya, workflow construction for character or motion production, and rigging high-end characters are also welcomed.

Additional preferred knowledge or experience includes procedural modeling with Houdini, animation production using blend shapes, high-mesh and procedural texture production with ZBrush or Substance Painter/Designer, script development, shader development, and AI or machine learning. The position is based in Shinagawa, Tokyo. It is listed as a full-time regular employee position, although a contract employee offer may be made depending on skills and experience. The stated annual salary range is 5,000,000 to 13,000,000 JPY, with overtime paid in full, an April salary revision, and bonuses.
