Web Application Engineer

This full-time permanent role develops and improves the Loglass Workforce Planning product as a core member of its engineering team. Responsibilities include interviewing customers about their work, modeling and designing solutions, developing new features, improving existing functions, and speeding up data aggregation and analysis screens. The engineer also performs regular refactoring, leads projects within the team, explores and puts generative-AI development workflows into operation, automates and streamlines the development flow, and improves development processes across teams.

Required experience includes leading technical decisions across teams, understanding management and business strategies, and building and executing a technical strategy from them. Candidates should have experience improving team productivity and processes and enabling other engineers. The role requires approximately five or more years of server-side web application development experience, with no specific language required, approximately three or more years designing tests and implementing test code, experience refactoring legacy or large-scale systems or leading re-architecture, and practical experience with agile development.

Frontend development experience is welcomed because the team works across the stack. Experience with typed languages such as Java, Go or TypeScript is also welcomed, as are practical applications of domain-driven design and test-driven development and experience writing performance-focused code. The expected contribution includes understanding customer problems, pursuing value for users, products, the business and the organization, contributing through technical communication and recruiting activities, and helping develop the existing feedback culture.

The product supports corporate management and workforce planning, areas where management methods differ by company and can be difficult to systematize. The engineer works closely with product and business teams while investigating customer needs and longer-term value. The development team is a self-organized group of about 10 people with Scrum experience and includes product management, design and QA roles. The position provides opportunities to propose technical-debt repayment and lead quality improvements or architecture renewal.

The main server-side technologies are Kotlin and Spring Boot. Frontend development uses React, Next.js and TypeScript. The AI development environment includes Cursor and Claude Code. Infrastructure uses AWS, Terraform, Fargate and ECR, with Aurora PostgreSQL as the database. Testing tools include Datadog Synthetics and Playwright. Other named tools and services are Slack, Gather, Figma, Findy team+, Notion, diagrams.net and Gemini.

The annual salary range is 7,000,000 to 20,000,000 JPY, determined according to experience and skills. Salary increases are reviewed twice yearly, in April and October. The monthly salary includes a fixed overtime allowance for 60 hours; work beyond that amount is paid separately. The position is based at the company headquarters in Mita, Minato, Tokyo, with home working available. Working hours are 10:00–19:00 with a one-hour break, and a flextime system with core hours from 10:00 to 15:00. The trial period is three months and may be extended to six months. Benefits include company-leased housing, subsidies for PC-related equipment and a corporate defined-contribution plan. Insurance covers health, employees' pension, employment and workers' compensation. Holidays include two full days off per week, weekends, public holidays and year-end and New Year holidays from December 28 through January 3, with paid leave and other stated leave programs.
