About this role

This full-time corporate planning role works closely with senior management and supports the company’s next stage of growth. The position does more than propose initiatives: it is expected to take responsibility for decision-making, execution and implementation, and may be assigned to projects involving new businesses, overseas business or M&A.

The corporate planning function covers responsibilities that may be divided among separate departments at larger companies. In the finance area, the role leads M&A from sourcing through closing and post-merger integration, investor relations, capital policy and stock compensation design. It also contributes to the medium-term management plan, business and capital alliances, and the advancement of governance.

In the management control area, the role leads internal control under J-SOX, company-wide risk management, business process reform, KPI management, business strategy development and market research. Related responsibilities include governance improvement, designing the operation of the board of directors and management meetings, and supporting M&A due diligence.

Prior experience specifically titled corporate planning is not required. Applicants should have experience in planning work or practical work involving numerical analysis, such as sales planning, business planning, marketing or business promotion. At least one of the following backgrounds or experiences is required: five or more years in corporate planning, IR or finance at a listed company, financial advisory, investment banking, private equity or securities; completing M&A or IR as the primary person in charge; personally conducting corporate valuation such as DCF; internal control, risk management, business reform or PMO at an operating company; internal control or business reform at an audit firm or consulting company; or five or more years in corporate planning or an administrative function at a listed company with experience leading a company-wide project. Strong empathy with THECOO DNA is also required.

Experience at a Growth or Standard Market listed company, involvement in governance design, end-to-end M&A responsibility, institutional investor relations, leading J-SOX development or operating evaluation, and leading implementation of a core system are welcomed.

The organization has an average age of approximately 34 and a flat structure. It encourages employees to think independently and make proposals, with ideas and strategies able to be discussed and implemented regardless of tenure or position. The position is based in Jingumae, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo. It uses a flextime system with core hours from 11:00 to 15:00, an indicative working time of eight hours per day and average monthly overtime of 20 to 40 hours.

The annual salary range is 7.5 million to 10 million JPY as an estimate and may be adjusted under company rules based on experience, previous salary and ability. Salary is revised once a year, and a financial-results bonus is available. The employment is permanent, with a six-month probationary period. Holidays include a complete two-day weekend on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, year-end and New Year holidays, annual paid leave of 10 days in the first year after six months of employment, condolence leave and Sick Leave, as well as marriage, maternity, childcare and nursing-care leave. Benefits include social insurance, commuting expenses, Benefit Station, full support for installation and usage fees for a company-designated high-speed home internet line, and support for study meetings, training and book purchases. A designated smoking room is provided.

The selection process consists of document screening, a first interview, a second interview followed by a personality aptitude test, a final interview and an offer. The process may change, and the aptitude test alone is not used to determine the result.
