Head of Accounting

Belong operates a resale, purchase and rental business for used smartphones as an internal startup of Itochu Corporation. The Head of Accounting leads the accounting department and works closely with the current CFO and management team to strengthen the company’s financial accounting foundation and manage the accounting organization.

The role oversees monthly, quarterly and annual closing and also drives the practical execution of accounting work. Responsibilities include improving and systematizing workflows to accelerate closing, responding to audits in line with standards for listed companies and large companies, and handling tax matters related to the group consolidated taxation system and overseas transactions in consultation with external tax advisers.

The position advances the development and evaluation of internal controls required of a subsidiary of a listed company, including J-SOX activities. It also involves establishing accounting policies and rebuilding systems and processes in preparation for future subsidiary investments and consolidated accounting. When needed, the role works with the management control department to support the provision of numerical data for management accounting and budget-versus-actual analysis.

People management includes assigning work to accounting department members, developing employees, and managing regular employees, temporary staff and outsourced personnel. The role also participates in recruitment as the organization grows.

The finance and accounting function consists of the accounting department and a hybrid management control department. The accounting team includes employees, temporary staff and contractors and handles work ranging from daily transaction management through closing. The management control department brings together information systems, legal, corporate planning, internal controls and risk management. The company is in a business expansion phase described as a second founding period, and the role is expected to build on the foundation established by the current CFO and develop the accounting organization over the medium and long term.

Tools named in the posting include Google Workspace, Slack, Notion, Keeper, MDM using Jamf Pro and Intune, and iboss. The main work device is a Mac, with Windows used for some duties.

The work location is Belong’s Tokyo headquarters at 6-4-10 Akasaka, Minato-ku, Tokyo. The stated scope of possible work locations includes places where remote work is performed. The company plans to move to a new office near Aoyama-itchome Station around autumn 2026, with work continuing at the current location until the move.

The selection process consists of document screening, two to three interviews with a reference check, and an offer meeting.
