English-to-Japanese Localizer / Copywriter

Role and responsibilities
This part-time position supports the lead English-to-Japanese localizer. The work includes creative copywriting for public relations, translation and editing of in-game text such as tutorials and user-interface content, and assistance with occasional translation assignments. The role also works with the PR team to help ensure that translated text follows guidelines for consistent tone and style.

Required qualifications
Candidates must be native Japanese speakers with native-level English ability and strong writing skills in both Japanese and English. Professional experience translating short and long-form text from English into Japanese is required. Professional creative copywriting experience is also required, including the ability to incorporate narrative and storytelling elements into public-relations content. Applicants should understand writing in a wide range of tones and styles, have a strong interest in Japanese games and media, and possess a deep understanding of the game market.

Preferred experience
A strong record of English-to-Japanese translation involving prose or narrative-style writing is welcomed.

Working conditions
The role is primarily based in Tokyo, Japan. International remote work may also be considered based on the applicant’s skills and experience. Flexible working arrangements are supported. During the contract period, working from either the Tokyo or London office is optionally available. Compensation is calculated on a per-word basis, with the amount discussed after hiring.
