Sound Designer / Composer

The role creates music and background music for games under development or in operation. Responsibilities may also include commissioning production from external parties, managing those assignments, and directing the work. The role involves working appropriately with related stakeholders such as directors and designers.

Required qualifications include experience creating BGM for console or handheld games, or for visual productions such as films and television dramas. Candidates must have knowledge of and experience using various music-related tools. They must also submit work that demonstrates their ability and achievements. Audio or video files are accepted without a specified format, and website, YouTube, or online-storage URLs may be provided. Submitted work must include explanatory material covering production and recording details, with the candidate’s specific contribution to each track clearly identified. Postal or courier submissions are not accepted, and unpublished work created for professional projects should not be submitted.

Experience recording acoustic instruments, including orchestras, is welcomed. The stated candidate profile includes a strong interest in and extensive engagement with games, broad knowledge of music for games and visual media, patience in music production, and an individual musical identity.

The position is listed as a permanent, full-time role. The posting also states that a contract employee or outsourced contract arrangement may be used in some cases. The work is a five-day-per-week office position in either Shibuya-ku or Meguro-ku, Tokyo. Working hours are 10:00 to 19:00, including eight working hours and a 60-minute break from 13:00 to 14:00. Annual salary is JPY 4.5 million to 12 million. The amount is determined according to experience, ability, and company rules. A semiannual performance incentive is paid separately from the annual salary. The annual salary includes prescribed overtime and late-night work allowances, which are paid regardless of whether overtime work occurs.

Permanent employees receive two full weekend days off and public holidays, summer leave of three days taken between July 1 and November 30, year-end and New Year holidays from December 29 to January 3, annual paid leave of 10 days granted at joining in the first year, and condolence leave. Health insurance, employment insurance, workers’ compensation insurance, and employees’ pension insurance are provided. These leave and insurance arrangements may differ for outsourced contracts.
