Animation Engineer, Game Engine

This role designs and develops animation runtimes and tools for game consoles. Responsibilities include creating tools that convert animation data produced with Maya and other DCC tools into data optimized for use in game runtimes.

Required qualifications include deep knowledge of game animation, professional experience using C or C++, and knowledge of Newtonian mechanics, inverse kinematics (IK), and linear algebra. The posting also seeks people interested in the movement of humans and animals and people who continuously follow the latest research.

Experience developing games for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, or PC is welcomed. Additional preferred experience includes using animation middleware such as Morpheme, knowledge of MotionBuilder, full-body IK, Human IK, creating animation exporters with Maya or similar tools, and developing tools for Windows.

The position is part of game engine development, with related materials describing the Cyllista Game Engine and large-scale game development using Python. The employment type is full-time, although contract employee or outsourced contract arrangements may also be available. The annual salary is determined according to experience and ability, with a stated range of ¥4.5 million to ¥12 million. A semiannual performance incentive is available, and the annual salary includes prescribed overtime and late-night work allowances.

Working hours are 10:00 to 19:00, with eight scheduled working hours and a 60-minute break from 13:00 to 14:00. Average monthly overtime is approximately 18.5 hours based on 2025 results. Work locations are in Shibuya-ku or Meguro-ku, Tokyo. Holidays include a two-day weekend on Saturdays and Sundays, public holidays, summer leave, year-end and New Year holidays, annual paid leave, and condolence leave.
