This backend engineering role develops a large-scale health-check data platform that supports the use of medical big data. The main project is migrating a large on-premises system to AWS. Responsibilities include designing and developing new functions with AWS services such as Glue, Lambda and ECS, modernizing legacy functions with managed AWS services and Python, and pursuing architectures that improve the quality of large volumes of medical data. The role also works closely with planning and business teams from the product-planning stage to consider and implement improvements.
The position starts with smaller modifications supported by experienced engineers, followed gradually by responsibility for core parts of the AWS migration. Code reviews and pair programming are used to support development, and the team expands each member’s scope over time. The position is for in-house service development and does not require regular assignment to customer sites.
Required qualifications are at least two years of backend development experience, experience developing with SQL, and motivation to learn new technologies and improve services. Preferred experience includes cloud development with AWS; development using Python, C# or VB.NET; design and development of RESTful APIs; development using Docker or other container technologies; and design, development or operation of large-scale data systems.
The development environment includes AWS Glue, ECS, Lambda, Step Functions and Redshift; Python, SQL, C# and VB.NET; PostgreSQL, Oracle and Amazon Redshift; CloudFormation and Docker; GitHub; Slack and Confluence; and Gemini and Copilot. The team is also working to improve CI/CD and automate testing.
The work location is the Tokyo office in Minato, Tokyo. A hybrid work style combining remote work and office attendance at least two days per week is available. Working hours use a flextime system with core hours from 11:00 to 15:00, eight standard working hours per day and a 60-minute break.
