Frontend Engineer

This role develops, operates and provides technical support for the frontend of Pep Up for WORK, a corporate health-management service. The service uses data and ICT to support both physical and mental health for employees and companies. It is delivered as SaaS, combining shared functionality with flexible extensions for the differing needs of individual companies.

Responsibilities include frontend development and operation, technical support, collaboration with business stakeholders and other teams, and initiatives to improve software and service quality. The position is part of a new project that is becoming a significant business area for JMDC and involves product planning and development based on data such as health-prediction models. The role provides discretion to select technologies and methods suited to the short- and long-term growth of the business.

Required qualifications include at least three years of web frontend development experience using TypeScript, React.js or similar technologies; experience using Figma, Sketch or XD; experience with UI frameworks such as Material UI or Bootstrap; experience using API schemas such as OpenAPI or GraphQL; and the communication ability to work with stakeholders and carry product development through to completion. Applicants are asked to share a GitHub account. Experience or domain knowledge in healthcare or medicine, practical web service UI/UX design experience, and development experience using AWS or GCP are welcome qualifications. Experience building systems for quantitative and qualitative analysis using user behavior logs, speaking at conferences or events, and contributing to open-source software are also welcomed.

The development environment includes Figma for design and prototyping; an in-house framework based on Tailwind and Material UI; Ruby on Rails and TypeScript for development; GraphQL APIs; AWS infrastructure; Terraform for configuration management; Datadog and Sentry for monitoring; and GitHub, Slack, JIRA and Confluence.

The position is full-time and based at the Tokyo office in Minato-ku, Tokyo. The company uses a flextime system with core hours from 11:00 to 15:00, a standard working time of eight hours per day and a 60-minute break. A MacBook Pro and 27-inch 4K display are provided.
