About this role

The venture capitalist handles the full investment cycle for overseas startups. Daily work includes finding companies with useful technologies or business ideas, meeting their founders, assessing their appeal—especially their technology—through due diligence, and preparing materials for the investment committee. The role works with startup presidents to express and quantify a company's strengths and social significance, then presents the findings. After an investment, the venture capitalist maintains regular communication, provides hands-on support based on their own ideas, and helps guide the company to an IPO or M&A. The role may also involve overseas fund-raising activities when the fund is soliciting investors.

Candidates should have corporate sales experience at a venture capital firm or financial institution such as a megabank, leading regional bank, major securities company, or leasing company, or a background in consulting. Experience in a corporate planning function or a corporate venture capital unit, including involvement with startups and promotion of open innovation, is also accepted. Applicants should be interested in or knowledgeable about venture companies in ICT, fintech, healthcare, or environmental and energy fields. Experience developing subordinates and experience working with startups are welcome; prior venture-capital work is not required.

The Overseas Investment Department invests in startups in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, India, Israel, Southeast Asia, and Africa. The work can include serving as a director of an investee company and collaborating with other SBI Group operating companies through the investee's public listing. The stated career path allows investment review across stages and fields, with the opportunity to deepen expertise in a preferred area and develop specialization in business development and finance.
