About this role

This Tokyo-based role is part of the Global Office Team, which oversees human resources, labor relations and subsidiary management for the company’s overseas offices. The team supports operations across North America, China and Southeast Asia while the business expands through new offices and M&A or PMI activity.

The role leads projects covering overseas HR planning, compensation, performance evaluation, benefits, HR systems and labor governance. Responsibilities include designing and operating labor-relations frameworks, strengthening governance at overseas locations, supporting compensation and evaluation programs, planning benefits programs, and establishing operating procedures. The position also manages global vendor integration and optimization and develops global mobility processes, including payroll and transfer procedures for expatriates.

The role supports overseas subsidiary PMI, including planning and advancing back-office operations integration, HR-system integration and culture integration after an acquisition. It also participates in overseas office launches from the decision-making stage and helps design and establish the required operations and systems in close coordination with overseas business leaders. Day-to-day work involves collaboration with local HRBPs, executives, business leaders, local managers, overseas members and external specialists. The position is expected to organize complex labor-law, labor-practice and individual employee-relations issues, assess risks, build agreement among stakeholders and drive execution. Initially, the successful candidate will lead important overseas HR, labor, systems and governance projects hands-on. Over time, the role may develop into responsibility for policy development, organizational setup and team or function management.

Required qualifications include business-level English; practical work experience using English is not required, and daily-level speaking ability is acceptable. Native-level Japanese is required. Candidates must have experience leading cross-functional projects or operational improvements in HR labor relations, HR planning, HRBP or Global HR while building consensus with executives, business leaders or local managers. At least five years of practical experience is required in one of the following areas: corporate HR and labor relations; labor or risk response in an HRBP, Global HR or HR-planning role; HR systems or operations related to overseas subsidiaries, overseas offices, expatriates, overseas assignments, local employment or global mobility; or labor and HR support at a social insurance and labor consultant firm, consulting firm or law firm.

Preferred experience includes using English professionally or working overseas, overseas HR and labor operations, labor governance, global HR planning or systems operations, C&B or HRBP work at a globally operating company, PMI or systems-integration projects, project ownership or people management, and working with members who hold diverse values.

The position is a full-time regular employee role with an annual salary of JPY 10,000,000 to 15,000,000 under an annual-salary system. The work location is the Tokyo office, with remote work available; approximately one office day per week may be required. Travel is expected approximately once a year, with coordination mainly involving overseas offices in Sri Lanka and China. Standard working time is eight hours under a full-flex system with no core hours. Holidays include a two-day weekly holiday system, public holidays and year-end and New Year holidays. Benefits include at least 10 days of paid leave, condolence leave, childbirth and childcare leave, two separate seven-consecutive-day long vacations each year, transportation reimbursement up to JPY 50,000 per month, a company-provided PC selected from a catalog, reduced-hours arrangements and social insurance. The selection process consists of document screening, approximately three to four interviews and an offer meeting.
