Healthcare Procurement Specialist

This role manages procurement for medical and precision equipment in Nikon’s Healthcare Business Division, with a primary focus on products and components used in microscopes and related repair parts. Responsibilities include obtaining quotations, negotiating prices through VA/VE proposals, concluding contracts, and managing suppliers for cost, sourcing and business continuity planning.

For new product launches, the role develops procurement plans with design and production-control teams, and identifies, selects, evaluates and contracts with new suppliers. For existing products, responsibilities include obtaining quotations and negotiating prices following drawing changes, evaluating existing suppliers, developing and assessing new suppliers, and renewing supplier contracts.

The role also improves procurement systems and processes by establishing procurement and escalation rules and promoting fair and lawful transactions based on the Act on the Promotion of Subcontracting Small and Medium-sized Enterprises. It involves coordination with engineering, design, production control, supply chain management and quality teams.

Required qualifications include at least three years of practical procurement or purchasing experience in manufacturing, experience working proactively with internal and external stakeholders, and experience in a manufacturer of medical equipment, precision equipment, optical equipment or automobiles. Candidates must have practical experience in price negotiation and supplier evaluation and selection, basic knowledge of the applicable transaction law, logical thinking and communication skills, experience improving systems or processes, and experience achieving cost improvements and stable supply in volume procurement.

Preferred experience includes development procurement, understanding technical drawings, contract execution, procurement for new product launches, production engineering or development. Excel-based numerical analysis and document preparation skills are also welcomed, as is the ability to read, write and communicate in English.

The position is assigned to the Healthcare Business Division’s Production Strategy Department, Procurement Section. The team has 12 members excluding the section manager, with an average age in the 40s. OJT is followed by a career path from staff member to team leader, group leader and section manager. Working conditions include flextime, remote work, 8 hours of actual work per day, a 45-minute break, approximately 10 to 30 hours of overtime per month, and a three-month probationary period. The stated work location is the Head Office/Innovation Center in Shinagawa, Tokyo. Annual holidays total 128 days, with a five-day workweek, and benefits include commuting expenses, social insurance, housing assistance subject to conditions, employee stock ownership, defined-contribution pension, retirement allowance, and childcare and nursing-care support systems. The stated annual salary range is 5 million to 9.3 million yen.
