Medical Product Environmental Regulatory Compliance Specialist

This role supports product environmental regulatory compliance within Canon’s medical business. The work covers medical imaging equipment and in-vitro diagnostic equipment.

Day-to-day responsibilities include monitoring environmental laws and regulations in countries and regions worldwide, determining whether they apply to products, and establishing response policies and schedules for regulations that require action. The role coordinates and negotiates with procurement, development, production and overseas sales departments, provides necessary instructions, and manages progress against the schedule.

The position also provides timely information on environmental regulations and broader environmental trends to the business division. It helps prepare the organization for prompt responses when regulations take effect and promotes environmental awareness among employees in relevant departments, including development engineers.

The employee will work with the product environmental assessment team, product environmental planning team, and teams in procurement, development, production and overseas sales, sharing responsibilities and coordinating regulatory compliance activities.

Required experience is at least three years of work related to product environmental matters, or experience in product development. Knowledge related to product development is welcomed. English ability at approximately a TOEIC score of 700 is also welcomed.

Initially, the employee will handle the assigned practical work while learning the development, production and shipment flow and processes for medical imaging equipment, as well as regulations in the medical industry. Depending on skill development, future opportunities may include leading the environmental regulatory compliance team, rotating to other teams in the department, or working concurrently with or rotating to another department such as development. The role may later involve industry association activities and planning work to communicate environmental performance in coordination with marketing.

The position is full-time and is based at Canon’s Shimomaruko headquarters in Ota, Tokyo, or the Nasu office in Otawara, Tochigi. Working hours are 8:30 to 17:00. The annual holiday total is 125 days, with a five-day workweek in principle from Monday to Friday, public holidays, year-end and New Year holidays, a May holiday period and summer leave.
