Translation & Communication Specialist

Based in Tokyo, Japan, the Translation and Communication Specialist supports the Global Account Management (GAM) team, which is part of a department serving as the business contact for global partners that develop and sell game software for PlayStation. GAM has around 50 members worldwide and coordinates with partner headquarters and local offices on business discussions, negotiations, presentations, and reporting to global leadership.

Working with the Senior Translation and Communication Specialist, the role develops approaches for translation, interpretation, and cross-cultural communication. The specialist provides interpretation for internal and external meetings and translates emails and documents between Japanese and English. The role also helps develop processes and structures for efficient use of dedicated and centralized translation resources and tools, including AI and machine translation.

Responsibilities include defining third-party translation resources, tooling plans, and standards for choosing dedicated resources, centralized translation, or machine translation. The specialist also creates communication training for the GAM team, focusing on cultural context, conversation patterns, and communication styles. The scope may later expand to Chinese and Korean language operations, including vendor and partner lists, language lexicons, resource and tooling processes, and related cultural communication training.

Required qualifications include native-level bilingual English and Japanese language and communication skills, at least three years of translation or interpretation experience, or at least four years working in an environment where English was the main language. BtoB work experience, knowledge of or interest in the gaming market and industry, general video game knowledge, and strong attention to detail are also required.

Preferred qualifications are deep knowledge of video games and the video game industry, experience working or living in a multicultural environment for four or more years, and experience creating business-level documentation. The role calls for someone able to organize multiple projects, set priorities, move work forward proactively, improve processes, challenge established conventions, build trusted relationships with diverse stakeholders, and remain composed in high-pressure situations requiring rapid decisions.
