About this role

This Engineering Lead will provide technical leadership for new B2C services in the lifestyle domain. The role connects business, product, design, engineering, and external technology partners, and leads technical decisions for product development.

Responsibilities include defining product technology strategy, designing system architecture, selecting technologies, developing platforms for generative AI and data utilization, and creating medium- to long-term technology roadmaps. The role leads development from MVP and proof-of-concept stages through scaling, works with product teams on requirements and prioritization, improves development processes, and supports quality, security, and operability.

The position also supports and develops engineers, leads technical and design reviews, resolves technical issues, works with internal and external technology partners, and contributes to engineering culture. Additional responsibilities include cross-functional decision-making with product, design, and business teams, providing technical recommendations to management, and managing and resolving technology risks.

Required qualifications include at least seven years of software development experience in web services, SaaS, or mobile applications; backend development expertise combined with the ability to understand and actively develop across the overall system; experience leading development with multiple engineers; experience making technical decisions in product development; collaboration with business, product, and design functions; and experience developing services using AI or generative AI. Experience in a new business or startup environment, as a tech lead or engineering leader, in cloud architecture, in data platform design, or in engineering organization management is welcomed.

The team is creating hardware-independent lifestyle solutions while moving from a product-sale model toward service-based businesses. It is in the product design, hypothesis validation, MVP, and proof-of-concept phases and aims to commercialize new services. The organization combines telework and office work. The position is based in Meguro, Tokyo, or Kadoma, Osaka, with a flextime system available. Standard working hours are 9:00 to 17:30, with a standard daily working time of 7 hours 45 minutes. The employment contract is regular employment, with a three-month probationary period under unchanged conditions. Annual salary is estimated at 11,000,000 to 17,000,000 JPY, with final compensation determined according to experience, ability, company rules, and position size.
