About this role

This full-time, mid-career role is the company’s first dedicated research position. The researcher will lead user research and data analysis, working with product managers, engineers, and registered dietitians to identify insights from both user feedback and service usage data. Findings will support service improvements, new feature proposals, and marketing initiatives for medical and food-industry clients.

The role includes planning and conducting surveys and interviews with existing users. Responsibilities may cover questionnaire design, participant recruitment, research execution, result aggregation, and analysis. The researcher will also analyze application and web-service logs to understand users’ meal patterns and recipe-search behavior, then prepare reports and proposals based on the findings.

Most internal log and survey data is stored in Google BigQuery. The main analysis tools are SQL and Python, including environments such as Jupyter Notebook. Spreadsheets and Excel may be used for survey aggregation. R is available but is used infrequently, with Python being the primary analysis language. Engineers are available to help extract data when needed.

Required qualifications include at least one year of practical data-analysis experience involving data handling, aggregation, or analysis with Python and SQL; experience designing, conducting, and analyzing user surveys; logical thinking and reporting skills; and the ability to collaborate across departments and move projects forward with people from different professional backgrounds.

Preferred experience includes data analysis or growth work in web services or mobile applications, use of large-scale data platforms such as BigQuery or other data warehouses, and knowledge of UX research or marketing research, including usability testing and interview research. Interest in food and healthcare or knowledge related to dietetics, food, or nutrition is also welcomed.

Depending on interest and suitability, the researcher may support evidence-related work with the research and development team, including analysis of service effectiveness and joint research projects with universities. The posting also describes opportunities to use company data for conference presentations and academic papers.

The company provides nutrition management applications, including the main service Oishi Kenko, as well as the Kakaris dietary-guidance solution for medical institutions. Its work includes collaborations with medical and food companies and joint research with universities. The services contain more than 80,000 users’ data segmented across more than 80 diseases and concerns, along with meal and behavior logs. The organization has approximately 40 members with backgrounds in healthcare, IT, food, education, and government, including engineers, designers, and registered dietitians.

The work location is Tokyo. Remote work and a flextime system are available, and online interviews are accepted. Onboarding support includes regular meetings with the CEO and one-on-one lunches with a mentor.
