About this role
Role and responsibilities
This full-time position manages the business performance of NewsPicks’ media and platform business. The work includes analyzing revenue and costs, managing marginal and contribution profit, and reporting findings to management. The role also manages business KPIs through Tableau and similar tools, including MRR and ARR and the acquisition, retention, and pricing levers.
Responsibilities include user cohort and churn analysis, planning measures to improve retention, budget preparation and budget-versus-actual management, weekly MRR review operations, and monthly management meetings. The position works with product development, marketing, editorial, and customer success teams to improve business systems and workflows. After initially focusing on numerical management and building relationships across departments, the role is expected to participate in cross-functional projects and contribute to both data infrastructure and operational efficiency.
Required qualifications include proactively taking action in business management, corporate planning, or management administration rather than limiting the work to reporting and control. Candidates must be able to interpret a business model, distinguish fixed and variable costs, and identify the business levers. Experience collaborating with management-level members of other departments and reaching agreement with them is required. The posting also seeks learning agility and flexibility, including the ability to independently acquire knowledge of media and subscription businesses.
Preferred experience includes work at an IT, SaaS, media, or platform company; use of Tableau, SQL, BI tools, or similar data-analysis tools; and media-specific cost management such as editorial or production costs, content production expenses, license fees, production efficiency, and return-on-investment analysis. Experience with SaaS or subscription metrics such as MRR, ARR, CAC, LTV, and churn, management accounting concepts including marginal and contribution profit, cohort or churn analysis, system requirements definition, workflow design, and cross-functional project leadership is also welcomed. Familiarity with content economics, user engagement, and network effects is listed as useful domain knowledge.
The role is based in Chiyoda, Tokyo, with remote work available subject to the rules of the assigned organization. Working time is eight hours per day under a full-flex system with no core hours. The position is a regular employee role with an annual salary of 6.6 million to 9.0 million JPY, determined during selection based on experience and skills. Benefits and conditions include commuting expenses up to 50,000 JPY per month, a company-provided PC selected from a catalog, a reduced-hours system, complete insurance coverage, paid leave of at least 10 days, weekends and public holidays off, bereavement leave, parental leave, and a twice-yearly seven-consecutive-day long-vacation制度 separate from paid leave. The workplace has a designated smoking room and no work in smoking-permitted areas. The work location may change to the employee’s home, headquarters, or another company-approved location, and duties may change to any work designated by the company.
