Strategic Legal Specialist (AI & Data Business)

This position supports PLAID ALPHA, the professional-services business, and the Context Lake DaaS initiative. Context Lake is described as a data foundation that uses AI to interpret the reasons and background behind customer behavior by processing unstructured information such as surveys, inquiries and detailed site activity. The work is part of Datamind, an organization combining AI technology with specialist support for building AI environments, analyzing data, setting business strategy and executing initiatives.

The role works at the front line of the business with PLAID’s internal legal organization and external counsel. It identifies legal issues early, negotiates with enterprise customers’ legal departments, and supports matters from commercial agreement through product delivery. A key responsibility is to build a legal architecture that shortens the time from agreement to use while removing obstacles to sales and business expansion.

Initial priorities include creating standard responses for customer security questionnaires. The operating model is intended to reduce response time from five to ten business days to one to two business days. The role also completes the Context Lake terms of use, including the fixed-plus-usage pricing model, limiter clauses, service-scope definitions and SLA provisions, and prepares related application and memorandum templates. Another responsibility is drafting and standardizing a DPA covering the purposes for using purchasing and behavioral data, security standards, subprocessors, deletion and return procedures, and breach response.

During the 0-to-1 phase, the legal professional joins product discussions and answers customer questions directly about terms of use, data handling and intellectual-property ownership. The role organizes issues for management review across five areas: SaaS terms and contracts, data privacy, intellectual property, security and authentication, and business structure and go-to-market. Examples include multi-tenant billing, automatic renewal, hashing policy, opt-out operations, whether AI-generated outputs constitute personal information, deletion SLAs, ownership of prompts and tag definitions, copyright in AI-generated outputs, protection of intellectual property after contract termination, ISMS including ISO 27017, access control, audit logs, privileged-account management, accounting treatment of work hours and the contractual position of environment issuance.

As the business grows, the role builds a legal knowledge base from customer negotiations and establishes decision standards that allow product and sales teams to act more independently. It also designs scalable legal operations, including workflow systemization and the use of AI, so increasing deal volume does not make legal review a bottleneck. The position may work with development teams to reflect privacy-enhancing technologies and access-control functions in the product. The stated member structure is eight people.

The work is based at PLAID’s head office in Ginza, Chuo-ku, Tokyo. The posting states that the role uses a hybrid arrangement combining office and remote work. Office attendance may be requested for a certain number of days depending on company and team circumstances, and the business side currently generally attends the office three days per week.
