Legal for Digital Bank Establishment

Money Forward is hiring a legal professional for the digital bank it is establishing with Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation. The bank aims for a user experience unlike existing banks, and this role sits in the legal team that supports its soundness and trustworthiness from preparation for opening through operations, with room to grow into a core member.

At first the person drafts and reviews contracts and terms of use, handles internal legal questions and supports board and shareholder meeting administration. Later the work moves to bank-specific matters: supervisory authority inquiries, contracts with banking-as-a-service partners, legal support for deposit, lending and remittance services, and building the bank's governance and compliance framework from zero.

Applicants need roughly three or more years of legal work at a law firm or a financial institution such as a bank, payment, crypto exchange or credit card company, and strong logical reasoning. Comfort with tools such as Slack and AI tools is expected. A lawyer's qualification, startup legal experience and English for reading contracts are preferred.
