This Legal role supports PLAID’s management and business activities from legal, risk, and compliance perspectives. PLAID develops and provides KARTE, a CX platform, and also operates services that support companies’ management issues. The legal function covers corporate legal work, internal controls and compliance, contract law, intellectual property management, and support for new businesses.

Day-to-day responsibilities include tracking and analyzing the Personal Information Protection Act, GDPR, personal-data requirements, information-security rules, and AI-related regulations. The role supports incorporating these findings into management strategy, maintaining and operating related internal rules, and responding to security certifications. It also covers due diligence and contract negotiations for M&A, business investments, and organizational reorganizations.

The position supports the operation of shareholder meetings and board meetings and helps build and strengthen the corporate-governance framework. It provides legal support for group companies in Japan and overseas, assists new-business, new-product, and new-feature development, and validates business models. Other work includes drafting and updating terms and contracts, reviewing various agreements, and managing the acquisition, administration, and use of intellectual property rights such as patents and trademarks. The role also handles disputes and litigation.

Additional responsibilities include improving legal workflows and planning or leading the introduction of systems such as contract-management systems. Internal-control work, including J-SOX compliance, and internal-audit activities are also included.

The legal team consists of eight members. The work location is PLAID’s head office in Ginza, Tokyo. The stated working style is hybrid, combining office and remote work; depending on company and team circumstances, a certain number of office days may be requested. The business side currently generally works from the office three days per week.
