Database Research Consultant

The Database Research Consultant leads database research for pharmaceutical clients. The role examines clinical questions and underlying client issues, then develops appropriate research designs from epidemiological and statistical perspectives. Responsibilities include preparing clinically meaningful protocols, leading the design and execution of database studies, and producing high-quality real-world evidence (RWE).

The consultant manages projects across the full process, coordinating with epidemiologists, statistical analysts, writers, and other clinical, epidemiology, statistics, and writing specialists. This includes planning analyses, refining research questions, interpreting outcomes, and preparing deliverables. The position is expected to identify customer problems accurately and propose solutions from a specialist perspective, rather than only responding to stated requests.

Applicants must have experience conducting database research using real-world data (RWD). Research experience from either a company or academia is accepted. Preferred qualifications include English communication skills for activities such as literature research, knowledge of pharmaceutical companies' medical divisions, and deep expertise in epidemiology and biostatistics.

The work supports evidence generation for pharmaceutical medical departments and combines consulting, clinical research, epidemiology, statistics, and healthcare data science. It also involves understanding how real-world data is generated and correctly handling the JMDC Group's large and varied databases while accounting for potential data pitfalls. This is a full-time position expected to be based at the Tokyo office in Minato-ku, Tokyo when hired. The working system is flextime, with core hours from 11:00 to 15:00, eight standard working hours per day, and a 60-minute break. Holidays include Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays, December 29 through January 3, and May 1 and 2. Paid leave includes five days granted on the joining date in the first year and five additional days after six months, followed by annual additions described in the posting, up to a maximum of 20 days. Once a year, employees may take a leave arrangement of up to nine consecutive days including weekends and public holidays.
