New Business Development, Clinical Development DX

This position leads business growth and modernization for data-utilization solutions in clinical development. The role focuses on connecting JMDC’s healthcare data with the clinical-trial capabilities of group companies, including SMO and CRO businesses, to improve the efficiency and quality of clinical development.

Responsibilities include expanding established services such as subject-candidate distribution research and clinical-trial feasibility research. The role will identify growth drivers, promote horizontal deployment, and advance standardization and platform development. It will also plan and execute marketing and sales strategies to increase the number of client companies.

The position will work with group SMO and CRO companies to design a next-generation clinical-trial support model that combines clinical-trial support systems for medical institutions with subject-recruitment services. It will consider ways to combine JMDC data with on-site clinical-trial capabilities and create new business value through group collaboration.

The role also plans solutions that apply ICT and digital technologies to clinical development in Japan. Named areas include decentralized clinical trials and the use of wearable devices. The work may include examining business opportunities in clinical trials, developing strategies, and organizing go or no-go decisions for different options.

Required qualifications include at least three years of practical experience in clinical development or research and development, or experience developing a related business. Candidates must have a deep understanding of clinical-trial structures gained at a pharmaceutical company’s development division, a CRO, an SMO, or a health-tech company. The posting also requires mature stakeholder-coordination skills, including the ability to work with internal teams, group companies, medical institutions, and pharmaceutical companies and bring parties with different interests to agreement. The role requires both a growth-oriented approach to scaling existing systems and the ability to develop new business concepts from the beginning.

Preferred experience includes introducing IT tools into clinical development, promoting digital transformation, and project management. The position also involves advancing multiple tasks and adapting to change.

The team consists of several people and is described as a small, specialized organization. The position is full-time and is expected to be based initially at the Tokyo office in Minato, Tokyo. The work location may be changed to a location designated by the company. Working hours use a flextime system with core hours from 11:00 to 15:00; standard working time is eight hours per day with a 60-minute break. Holidays include Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays, the year-end and New Year period from December 29 to January 3, and May 1 and 2. Annual leave is granted at joining and after six months according to the stated schedule, with a maximum of 20 days and limited carryover. Employees may take one annual vacation of up to nine consecutive days including weekends and public holidays.
