About this role

This role covers debt underwriting, including origination and documentation. In origination, the employee works with coverage teams to advise mainly Tokyo-based corporate clients on issuance terms, sales strategies and suitable bond issuance timing based on market conditions. During execution, the employee coordinates with syndication and related departments, explains transaction status to clients and makes proposals concerning the sale of underwritten bonds.

The position is expected to develop from supporting proposal activities and bond issuance management to taking responsibility for corporate clients, depending on prior experience. Documentation responsibilities include preparing and advising on contracts and disclosure documents for bonds issued by corporations and some public-sector organizations. The role may expand beyond documentation into broader execution work, requiring the employee to organize transaction-specific backgrounds, conditions, events, laws and regulations, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.

The business covers ordinary corporate bonds as well as expanding areas such as SDGs bonds and hybrid finance. The posting states that candidates should have strong motivation and a sense of responsibility, logical thinking for analyzing and explaining developments, willingness to learn diverse knowledge in changing circumstances, a team-oriented approach and a strong compliance mindset. PC skills using Excel, Word and PowerPoint are required, as is the Securities Sales Representative qualification, Class 1, which may be obtained after joining.

Experience in origination or documentation is welcomed. Other welcomed experience includes bond sales, bond dealing, bond analysis or secondary-market work; investment banking or markets work other than bonds; accounting or finance at a corporation; corporate work at a financial institution; and SDGs-related work. Knowledge of securities-business laws, regulations and market practices, including the Companies Act and Financial Instruments and Exchange Act, plus coordination, negotiation, transaction promotion, client explanation and document preparation skills, is also welcomed. Basic English ability is listed as desirable.

The role is a permanent position in the Debt Capital Markets division in Tokyo. Working hours are 8:40 to 17:10 with a one-hour break.
