About this role

This role manages strategic supplier relationships across Bloomberg’s Japan Supply Chain network. The Supply Chain team works with contract manufacturers, logistics providers, repair vendors and internal business partners to ensure that products and services are delivered reliably and efficiently to customers around the world.

The Vendor Manager owns vendor performance across service levels, quality, delivery, responsiveness, cost, budget performance and compliance. The role ensures that suppliers meet service-level agreements, spend is managed effectively, and vendor performance remains aligned with business objectives. Responsibilities include supporting supplier onboarding, operational readiness and business continuity planning for new and existing vendors when needed.

The role identifies ways to improve operational efficiency, reduce costs and simplify processes through standardisation, automation and closer vendor collaboration. It investigates operational issues with suppliers, determines root causes, implements corrective and preventive actions, and manages escalations while balancing business priorities with long-term supplier relationships. The manager leads regular vendor business reviews, sets performance expectations, tracks agreed actions and uses vendor performance data to identify trends, risks and improvement opportunities.

Day-to-day work includes collaboration with Planning, Logistics, Warehouse Operations, Quality, Procurement and Customer Support teams to resolve issues and improve end-to-end execution. The role also monitors contractual obligations, operational compliance and governance processes, communicates performance and risks to regional and global stakeholders through reporting and governance forums, and provides operational input to sourcing and procurement teams on vendor selection, performance assessments and supplier strategy.

Applicants should have at least 6 years of experience in Vendor Management, Supply Chain Operations, Procurement, Logistics or Operations Management. Experience managing third-party vendors and improving their performance, a strong understanding of end-to-end supply chain operations, and experience analysing operational data and converting findings into business improvements are required. The position also requires stakeholder management and communication across internal and external partners, experience handling operational escalations and influencing without direct authority, strong problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced operational environment.

Business-level English and native-level or business-level Japanese proficiency are required. Experience with contract logistics providers, contract manufacturers or repair vendors; supplier performance methodologies and KPI governance; continuous improvement using Lean, Six Sigma or similar methods; SAP, ERP systems, Power BI or Tableau; and regional or global cross-functional supply chain projects would be beneficial. Commercial awareness covering service, quality, risk and cost is also valued. The work location is Tokyo.
