Leads strategic alliances for Ubie’s healthtech business, identifying high-impact partners, shaping joint ventures and data-sharing structures, and negotiating agreements with executive stakeholders.
About this role
The Deputy Head will own the internal operation of Ubie’s Pharma Innovation business so that the business head can focus on external relations with pharmaceutical company executives, alliances, and new business creation. This is a newly established, dedicated position; the deputy head responsibilities are currently combined with another role, and the appointment is intended to support succession. The business has worked with more than 90% of major pharmaceutical companies and is described as moving from a scale of several billion yen toward 10 billion yen and then 100 billion yen.
Responsibilities include preparing business plans and managing monthly and quarterly results against plans. The role will design KPIs and monitoring processes, decide corrective actions when targets are missed, plan the practical allocation of people and budgets, maintain delivery quality, and design operations intended to prevent incidents.
The position will standardize the process from proposals through orders, delivery, and continuation. It will organize successful patterns into solutions or packages so that they can be sold consistently, and convert individual sales and proposal knowledge into reusable organizational assets.
The role will design an organization spanning sales, customer success, and marketing. It will recruit, develop, and manage evaluations for members and managers numbering in the dozens, and establish onboarding and development programs.
The Deputy Head will connect operational issues and tensions to company-wide management so they can inform decisions. The role will structure customer insights for feedback to the product development team and design coordination with corporate functions including legal, finance, and human resources. It will also remain involved at the management level by accompanying teams to important customers and handling difficult negotiations and escalations.
After taking control of the internal side of the business, the expected career path may develop toward business division head or a company-wide management position. Employees are expected to actively share information through channels such as note, X (formerly Twitter), and LinkedIn, and participation or speaking at lectures, events, and study groups is encouraged. The work location is in Nihonbashi-Honcho, Chuo-ku, Tokyo. The scope of work may change to any duties determined by the company.
